SEER in One Paragraph
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures how much cooling a system produces per unit of electricity over a season — think of it as your air conditioner’s miles-per-gallon. Higher is better. Since 2023, new systems are rated under SEER2, a stricter test that better reflects real ductwork; a SEER2 number reads roughly 0.5–1 point lower than the old scale for equivalent equipment.
